Tips to Reduce Cheating

On this subject, I am still looking for some data on the prevalence of cheating – is this endemic, or occasional? How do we know, when it is a secret activity by definition?

One nice feature of LMS quiz makers is the ability to upload a multiple-choice test bank from which exam questions can be chosen. There are two levels of randomization possible in most systems like Blackboard or others:

  • Choosing, say, 10 randomized questions out of a list of 50, so that each student gets a different set of 10 questions
  • Randomizing the responses on the same question, so that Student A chooses the correct response “A,” but student B’s correct response will appear as “C” for the same question. Read on…
